Bali Itinerary: 2-week travel plan covering many highlights

You will fall in love with Bali, as many people do! It is one of Indonesia’s most visited islands. It is a great island, perfect for first-time backpackers or for travelers with a baby or kids. Bali has many interesting places to explore, a diverse landscape with volcanoes, endless rice fields, white sand beaches and beautiful waterfalls, good food and an awesome culture. This 2 week itinerary will guide you through the highlights of Bali. This travel route is a great mixture of sightseeing and chill-time!

Suggested itinerary: Seminyak – Pemuteran – Lovina – Munduk – Ubud – Sanur

Day 1 – Arrival Denpasar to Seminyak

You’ll probably arrive at Denpasar Airport. This doens’t mean you have to stay here. Let your journey start in Seminyak, one of the hot spots of Bali. It’s a one-hour drive to Seminyak from the Airport in Denpasar. Take a taxi for only 70.000 RP (€5 / $5,5).

This hotel is located in vibrant Seminyak, a 5-minute walk from dining and nightlife options in the area and close to the beach. It has a nice pool, a spa and a restaurant. The hotel rooms are spacious and clean. Sense hotel is rated with an 8.3 on and costs around €60 / $66 per night for a double superior room including breakfast.

Budget option: Casa Kayu Aya ***

If you have a smaller budget, Casa Kaya Aya is a good option. It is also located in the centre of Seminyak and there is a swimming pool. Hotel rooms are modern, clean and spacious. Rated with a 7.8 and costs €30 / $35 per night.

Day 2 – Seminyak

Seminyak is Bali’s most fashionable beach and host to a number of fine restaurants and boutiques. It is one of the most favorite places among backpackers and travelers. There are many things you can do in and around Seminyak. For example shopping, visiting fancy beach clubs such as Potato Head, joining a cooking class or just sun bathing at the beautiful beach. Furthermore, it is only a short drive north of Seminyak to the famous temple of Tanah Lot.

Day 3 – from Seminyak to Pemuteran

Today you are traveling from Seminyak to Pemuteran, a small laid-back fishing village in the northwest corner of Bali.

How you get from Seminyak to Pemuteran?

The best way to travel from Seminyak to Pemuteran is by car. It takes three to four hours to get to Pemuteran by car. A car with local driver costs 700.000 RP (€46 / $54) for the entire day. You can consider to do a day tour with several stops along the way. You can visit Tanah Lot and Pura Taman Ayun. This day trip from Seminyak to Pemuteran takes about 7 hours. You can arrange a taxi via your hotel.

It is easy to find accommodation in Pemuteran. You can choose a fancy resort of a laid-back hostel. Spend at least two nights in Pemuteran.

How lovely is this place?! These cute little bungalows are located near the beach and in a more peaceful and quiet place of Pemuteran. It has a lovely garden and swimming pool. A cheaper hotel: Putu Guest House Pemuteran **

Putu Guest house is a good budget option. This guest house is located close to the beach and the owners are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are beautiful and have a private bathroom. You can stay here for €24 / $27 per night. This hotel is rated with a 9,5 on average!

Day 4 – Pemuteran

Pemuteran is the place to be if you love snorkeling and diving. Visit the nearby island Menjangan and explore the beautiful sea life. The village is also near the Bali Barat National Park, which is perfect for hiking and wandering around in nature.

Day 5 – From Pemuteran to Lovina

Today you’re heading towards Lovina. Lovina beach is famous with their wild life habitat of dolphin.

Best way to travel from Pemuteran to Lovina

There is a “bemo” shuttle service from Pemuteran to Lovina. The trip takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Of course you can grab a cab for 350.000 Rp (€23,- / $27). He’ll take you too Lovina within 45 minutes. It’s best to arrange your transfer via your guest house in Pemuteran.

You can stay here for only €26 / $29 per night. This hotel has a nice swimming pool and is located close to the beach. You can arrange a dolphin tour via this hotel as well. Villa Jaya is rated with an 8,2.

Day 6 – from Lovina to Munduk

Get up early to spot some dolphins. A spot a the boat will cost around 100.000 Rp. In the afternoon your journey continues to Munduk. Munduk is a great place to visit if you love waterfalls, swings, hiking and temples!

How to travel from Lovina to Munduk

Unlike the southern part of Bali where you can jump in any taxi or Uber, Munduk is still hard to reach. You can drive to Munduk with a taxi within one hour. A taxi costs around 200.000 Rp (€13 / $15) and can be arranged at your hotel in Lovina.

Many people plan a day trip to the Munduk area, just to visit the temple at Tamblingan Lake. We suggest to stay in Munduk for at least three nights. This will give you the chance to explore more!

Day 7 – Munduk

Munduk is a small mountain village. The village itself is not that special, but the environment will make up for it. Munduk is surrounded by tropical rainforest, rice terraces and farms producing traditional commodities. It is the perfect place to do jungle trekkings and hikes to waterfalls. 

Note that the climate in Munduk is cooler than at other parts of Bali!

There are two waterfalls located in the Munduk area: The Banyumala Twin Waterfall and Munduk Waterfall. You can reach them by bike or scooter (or hire a drive for a day). Another must visit is the Twin Lake! These lakes are is surrounded by mountains and has a lot of breathtaking viewpoints including the Bali swing

Day 8 – Munduk

Enjoy your last day in Munduk. Get up for a nice trekking or cooking class. It might be cool to visit Munduk Moding Plantation and to have lunch there!

Day 9 – from Munduk to Ubud

Today your adventure continues in Ubud. It is a popular village in the center of Bali, also called Bali’s cultural heart. 

How to get to Ubud

There is a shuttle bus service from Munduk to Ubud and vice versa. A ticket costs 125.000 Rp per person (€9 / $10). Another option is to arrange a car with driver. This ride takes two to three hours and costs 400.000 Rp (€26 / $29). Your guest house in Munduk will be happy to help you to arrange a ticket.

Ubud is popular for a reason! There is so much going on here. Take your time to explore Ubud and the area. Stay here for three nights (or longer if you have time).

My pick: Pertiwi Bisma 1 ***


This is a pretty good deal! During high-season a room costs €67 ($70) but during low-season, you can stay here for €47 ($50) only! The location of Pertiwi Bisma 1 is ideal. The famous Ubud Monkey Forest is a 5-minute walk away. It takes 10 minutes to walk to Ubud Market, the old Ubud Palace and the famous Antonio Blanco’s Museum at Campuhan River. Do you want to stay here? Book a room at Pertiwi Bisma 1.

My cheaper pick: Alamanda Accommodation

A small-scaled bed & breakfast. Simple rooms, but located in the heart of Ubud. Rooms with a fan cost €16 per night, or €23 if you require AC. This guesthouse has a small swimming pool and is reviewed with an 8.4.

Day 10 – Ubud

Go and explore Ubud. It is gorgeous. Or arrange a nice tour! For example: visit the Tegalalang rice fields and Tegenungan waterfall !

Day 11 – Ubud

Ubud has a lot to offer. Enjoy the beauty of the rice terraces around Ubud or take a walk in the Monkey forest. Join a yoga or cooking class or visit the Gunung Kawi monument.

Day 12 – from Ubud to Sanur

What is a better way to end your journey than back on the beach? The final destination of this 2 week Bali itinerary is Sanur.

How you get from Ubud to Sanur?

Take a taxi to Sanur. You’ll be there within one hour and it costs €10 / $11. You can also take the Perama tourist shuttle bus for only €3 / $4. Let a tuk tuk driver take you to your hotel.

Do you prefer a beach party at Kuta beach? Take a taxi from Ubud for €15 / $17 or take the Perama tourist bus for €4 ? $5 (travel time 1,5 hour).

Recommended hotels in Kuta: Citadines Kuta Beach Bali **** €80,- per night. Or Kondra Premiere *** only €20,- per night.

Day 13 – Sanur

From Sanur you can do many excursions. For example to the capital Denpasar, the water palace or the island Nusa Lembongan. You can reach Nusa Lembongan within 30 minutes by boat. It costs approximately €18 /$20 per person.

Day 14 – Sanur to Airport
